Happy 1st Birthday Petal Poppet Blogs! ♥♥

One year ago today, I was sat bored at home, searching the internet on my laptop and wondering what to do with myself. I had been following a few beauty bloggers for a few months before this and today was the day I finally decided to start my own! And that's how Petal Poppet blogs started and honestly, the time has gone so quick! My first ever post was a review on the Maybelline Popsicle Lipsticks (you can check it out here) and it seems so funny to look back on how much I've changed when writing reviews.

Now I know I haven't really posted that much since the new year and I've had a lot of things going on in my personal/work life which has made me not want to blog as much but I do still enjoy it and I do want to continue writing posts and hopefully in the second year, Petal Poppet will grow as a blog.

Here's to year number 2!

All pictures are from tumblr :)

Glossybox June 2014 - My first box! ♥

Now for any of you that don't know, GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription service where every month, a pretty pink box comes through your door full of gorgeous goodies for you to use! They consist of 4-5 full size hair, make-up, body and nail products from both well-known and new brands. You can subscribe to them for one month, three months, six months, or a full year and can even gift your friends a box if you're feeling generous!

I love the idea of being sent products I wouldn't normally know about and getting the chance to try them for a fraction of their actual cost so I was really excited when GlossyBox sent me my email telling me it was on it's way to me!

As this was my first month of being signed up to them, I was a little unsure of what to expect and honestly my first impressions weren't that great. I loved the packaging and the way the products were all wrapped up like a little present but I wasn't too sure on the products themselves. None of them seemed to jump out at me as something I would normally go for but then I suppose whats the point in subscribing to something like this if I'm not going to keep an open mind?

 In my box:

Nailgirls 3-in-1 base/top coat & nail strengthener - RRP - £13.50 for 15ml bottle

got2be Rise 'n Shine Souffle - RRP - £4.07 for 100ml

So Susan Concealer Quad - RRP - £20 One size

Teeez Trend Beautiful Flat Stiff Brush - RRP - €19

Roger&Gallet Fleur de Figuier discovery ritual Shower Cream, Body Lotion and Eau Fraiche Fragrance - Sample size

Total box worth: £48.71!
GlossyBox Subscription - £10.00 plus £3.25 for postage
Total savings of: £35.46!

After seeing other blogger's previously boxes, I have to admit I'm slightly disappointed with what I got but nevertheless I will still use every product that I received and will definitely not let them go to waste and I'm already looking forward to next months box!

ANOTHER Primark Haul ♥

Now I know it was only three days ago that I went into Primark and brought a bunch of things, but yet again I couldn't help myself and ended up going shopping again. Now obviously I didn't buy as much but I still managed to spend £22! Someone please take my debit card away from me!

I wasn't sure when I first saw this denim shirt as it didn't look right but since it was slightly cropped, I decided I could wear it over a dress or top instead of a denim jacket. It was in the sale for £2. Bargain!

Last year I brought a really cute plain white t-shirt with a crochet panel on the shoulders and around the back and I cannot believe Primark hasn't brought them back this year. They were so comfortable and perfect for going out in the day and they came in a range of different colours but I haven't seen them back on the shelves this year. I did however find a very similar top in their nightwear section for £4 and I am very tempted to wear it as a normal t-shirt. No one would be able to tell, right?

The next thing I brought was these cute little peeptoe sandals. I originally was going to buy a very similar pair that weren't peeptoe but they didn't have my size but in the end I'm glad I brought these instead. They're really comfy and I'm even tempted to buy a pair just for work as there only £6!

The last thing I brought was this black over the shoulder bag. I was in desperate need of a small bag to take out with me but nothing I saw really caught my eye until I saw this beauty! Somebody had dumped it in the middle of the jewellery aisle and I couldn't find where they were orginally so this one went straight in my bag before anyone else could take it! It's a nice little size, perfect for taking essentials out in the day and was very reasonable for only £8

Now I really do think I've spent too much time in Primark lately and I will try and keep away!

Superdrug Haul! ♥

When it comes to toiletry shopping, I have to admit I don't normally spend that much. Whenever I do need something I will go and buy it and maybe get one or two items extra but when I went shopping today, I did go a little over the top. I initially went in to get a new foundation but I walked out after spending nearly £40!

First off I headed to the makeup counters and picked myself up the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation. I loved Rimmel's Stay Matte foundation so much and I was gutted to see it was starting to run a little dry but I'd read a few good reviews about the Wake Me Up foundation so why not?

Next up was the MUA stand. I did a review on the MUA Luxe Lip Lacquers a few months ago and I was super excited to see that they'd brought out 4 new shades, two neutral browns and two pinks. Since they were only £3, it would be stupid not to pick all four up! I did also pick up a cheeky £1 Matte lipstick in one of their two new shades, Fawn Fancy. I now cannot move for lipsticks.

After moving away from the makeup counters, I then went on to the hair aisles. When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I wouldn't necessarily say I have a favourite or a brand I always go to. The only thing I do look for is products that are for colour/damaged hair or maybe even something for volume if I'm feeling a bit fancy! This time the new Garnier Ultimate Blends Shampoo and Conditioner caught my eye with their big colourful bottles which slightly remind me of taller versions of the Organix bottles. Anybody else? Nope, just me. The main thing that caught my eye about these bottles in particular was that they're specially for mid-long hair with split ends. Now I know theres no magic cure for split ends but products that give your hair a good conditioning treatment make all the difference.

Next on my list was me going a little bit wild. Recently I've been wanting my ombre hair back but to also go a little bit lighter for the summer. The Superdrug colour performance dyes were buy one get one half price which is great because I end up needing more because I've got long hair. I picked two different colours because I obviously want my ends lighter so fingers crossed when I come to do it, it looks good! The next wild thing I brought was the Cocoa Brown Night & Day Tan Mousse. I was getting a little jealous of seeing everybody go on holiday and coming back with gorgeous tans so what do you do when you can't afford a holiday? You fake a tan! I'd read a few reviews on the Cocoa Brown brand beforehand and a lot of people recommended it as it wasn't the usual orange tan so hopefully after using it I'll be looking like I've spent two weeks in the Caribbean!

I obviously went a little mad but they're all products I'll use and I will even get a few review posts out of them so that's a positive, right?

In The Garden ♥

Since I'm on my own for the week, I've been reallllllly bored and it's only Tuesday! Instead of going home to the flat and being alone, I decided to visit my mom's and have a sit in the garden with her and my cat, Lacey :) It was really nice to have a break and just have a good gossip!

 Yay for ugly work clothes!

Daisy Print Dress OOTD ♥

I haven't done an OOTD for a while and I thought since I've brought a quite few new things recently, I should start doing some more posts!

The first outfit I picked out was something I actually wore for the first time when I was on holiday in Paris. It's a simple daisy print chiffon shirt dress from Primark that only cost me £13! It's sleeveless and comes down to just above your knees. Now I'm not brave enough to wear this on it's own so I wore it with leggings, but for those who are a little more adventurous, it's a perfect dress for summer. I also put a simple but pretty necklace under the collar and paired it with simple sandals to match.

I think this outfit is a really nice and simple day outfit without looking other the top. You could also add a leather jacket and heels for a night look!

Benefit They're Real Mascara Review ♥

By now most women would have probably heard about the Benefit They're Real! Mascara and the magic it apparently does for our eyelashes. The mascara is said to lengthen, curl, volumize, lift and separate. All that in one little bottle!

Now I have to admit, I've never actually brought any Benefit products beforehand and as I was always quite happy with my usual mascara, I've never really felt the need to buy into it. But after reading all the hype for this mascara, I have to admit it had made me a little curious and when I was browsing through the duty free in the airport waiting for my flight to Paris, I thought WHY NOT!

Now before you even open the packaging. you can see Benefit are making some big claims about how amazing the mascara is on just the box. Statistics show that:

94% saw dramatic length & volume
90% saw base-to-tip curl
94% saw visible lift
100% saw long-wearing results

I'm not really a fan of the plastic wand mascaras as I do think they leave my eyelashes looking very clumpy so as soon as I opened the tube, I have to say I initially I didn’t think I was going to like it. I did however like the little bristles on the end of the wand are slightly longer and look a bit like spiky ball. This is to help get into the corners and to ‘wing out’ your outer lashes easier.

I did try and take a before and after but my camera wasn't really having any of it so here you go.

Overall, I did really enjoy this mascara. I can see why people raved so much about it when it first came out and I do feel a little silly for not getting it sooner. Even on days when I applied just the one coat, people were noticing and complimenting me on how nice my eyes looked. The product was very long lasting and my eyes were still curled and voluminous when it came to taking it off at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, there are bad points to this mascara as well. Although I did manage to get my lashes looking great, I still wouldn't say I'm a fan of the plastic wands. There was definitely times where the wand left my lashes looking like spiders legs. Ew! I did also find you had to wait a good five minutes or so before applying another coat because it easily smudged under my eyes.

I do think this is a very hit and miss product for people as some bloggers were swearing by it and others were saying it was a waste of money. I'd like to say I'm a little in the middle. Would I buy it again though? Probably not, no. I'll stick to my usual Rimmel Scandaleyes Lycra Flexi mascara!

You can try it out for yourselves though on the Benefit website for £19.50 but you can go and pick one up from Boots in store.

Summer Primark Haul Take 2! ♥

Over the weekend, I went shopping and of course we had to make a little visit to my favourite, Primark! There was loads of lovely new summer clothes and I happened to pick up a few new items so here they are! :)

I'd seen this top a few times before and never brought it so I finally decided to be brave and pick myself one up. I picked a very girly pink floral pattern although it comes in darker prints as well. I love the crochet style on the back and I think it's a bargain at only £6!

Another top I was really excited to get was this floral vest top. Now the first thing that caught my eye was the straps and the worry on what bra I was going to wear. Nevertheless, it looks great on and I can't wait wear it out. Sun tan lotion will definitely be needed as I do not want tan lines off this top! This was also £6.

This year Primark has so many pretty dresses with very eye-catching prints but there was something about this simple but girly grey sundress that I just had to have. It was £13 but it's elasticated around the back and has adjustable straps so it's super comfy and it even comes with adorable little hidden pockets on the sides!

I got this beauty in the sale for only £3 reduced from about £6 (I think) and I'm really excited to wear it as I don't have any peter pan collar clothes. It's probably not great for summer as I hate wearing sleeves but it will definitely be worn when the weather cools down and who could say no to a £3 top?

skirtAnother item I managed to find in the sale rack is this black skirt for only £3. It's fitted around the waist and and then there are two flare panels on both sides of the legs. I don't think I'd wear it out but it would go nicely for work!

There wasn't many accessories that I liked, or what I haven't already got, but I did pick up this cute, simple necklace for £1.50. It would be perfect just to finish off an outfit and not be so "in your face" like most other necklaces at the moment. I also picked up some Disney Sleeping Beauty socks for £2.50. I picked up a couple of other pairs like these in The Little Mermaid and Cinderella but Sleeping Beauty is my favourite princess so I had to have!

I also picked up these tights as they're a god send for work. They have Weather Sensor Finish which apparently keeps you cool when it's warm outside and I have to admit, they're pretty good. I brought a pair about a month ago and have worn them for the past 3 weeks and I don't think I could go back to normal tights! I did notice that although it's been very hot and muggy lately, my legs didn't get very sweaty and I wasn't desperate to get them off at the end of the day! I think they're about £2/£3 but I'm not sure but even so, you do get three pairs in a pack which for me, makes them perfect!

Since the nights are so hot and muggy now in the summer, I was desperate to get something to wear on the nights and as soon as I saw this Paris night dress, I knew I had to have it. It was £5 which the same price as their little shorts and vest top sets but since I already have a few of them, I thought I'd try something different.

I don't normally post lingerie pictures but I do love Primark pants! Over the years, their prices have gone up but even £1.70 for a pair of comfortable boy shorts isn't exactly going to break the bank. I love the cute little designs and I now think I have all the ones with cats on. Totally not a crazy cat lady!

Duty Free Made Me Do It! ♥

Other than the holiday itself, the best part for me is flying and just generally being in the airport. When going on family vacations when I was younger, there was nothing more exciting than going around all the shops and then sitting and watching the planes take off and even though I'm nearly 24, that hasn't changed much. Instead of buying toys and sweets though, I've now moved onto makeup and perfume and when I recently went to Paris last month, these were the two things that I did decide to pick up.

A few months ago, I got a small sample size bottle of the new Boss fragrance called Jour free with a purchase from Superdrug and I absolutely fell in love with it. It's described as being "an elegant floral fruity fragrance inspired by the first light of day" and it is to die for. Unfortunately for me though, it was a little out of my price range at £49.50 for a 50ml bottle. Now I know that's not extremely overpriced but since I was obviously paying for my holiday, I couldn't afford to be spending that much on perfume :( Luckily for me though, it was there waiting for me when I entered duty free and it even came with a lovely £36 price tag so holding off buying it saved me £13.50!

Another product I was eager to try was the Benefit They're Real! Mascara. Now when it comes to make-up, I am religiously high street as I really don't see the need on spending lots of money on make-up that does just a good of a job than the cheaper products but I do keep seeing reviews about this mascara and I have to admit, it has intrigued me. While I was looking around Duty Free, I did spot it out the corner of my eye and I couldn't just say no to it. It came up for £16.50 which worked out to £3 less than buying in the shops. Not as much of a saving as the perfume, but it's still a saving!

I did have to stop spending at this point or I would have had no money for my holiday but there are so many different things I could have brought. It's definitely worth bringing extra money just for the duty free!

Marie Claire July Magazine Plus Goodies! ♥

There are some lovely little magazine freebies out there on the shelves of local newsagents and supermarkets at the moment and since I needed a little pick me up, I decided to buy myself one. I went with Marie Claire as I was really excited to try their freebie Ciate mini caviar manicure kit. They had several colour schemes to choose from but I went with Peach Kiss which is a nude/peach colour with matching caviar pearls.

I don't tend to buy many magazine anymore as I think that beauty blogging is more relatable to me but since the magazine was only £2.50 (usual price £3.90) and each of the Ciate sets is worth £10, I couldn't resist.
