Guest Post | 8 Steps to an Active Life and Young Skin

17 August 2017

Hello!

An active life keeps your skin young in several ways especially when you combine such activities with healthy balanced diet containing nutrients that are skin-friendly. Active lifestyle does not mean indulging in excessively hard physical activities, even a good quality sleep can make your skin look healthier and younger. Active life can keep your skin younger in the following ways;
active life
#1: 8 glasses of water a day
If you want your skin to appear healthier, glowing and younger, you need to stay hydrated most times. One of the reasons why your skin appears dry and awful most times is because the skin tissues are not hydrated. When you consume sufficient amount of fluids (most especially water) regularly, your body will flush out toxins from vital organs, including the skin, hence your skin will be able to shed older and unhealthy skin cells.
#2: Establish a daily skin care habit
There are lots of skin care products in the market but you need to choose the right one that will take care of your skin. Do not go for skin care products with excessive chemicals that will make your skin more sensitive or dry, rather you should indulge in active skin care habits such as regular exfoliation and the application of moisturiser and sunscreen , just before you step out in the morning.
Daily skin care habits also means, taking showers once or twice a day and making use of non-chemical soaps and body washes. Occasionally, you may want to add essential oils of some skin-friendly plants such as Aloe Vera, Eucalyptus and Peppermint.
Make sure you do away with antiseptic soap because they are known to remove the protective oily layer of the skin that helps to keep your skin soft and moist. Make sure your skin care products contain little or no alcoholic ingredients, however, they can contain moisturising ingredients.
#3: Establish regular sleep routine
Most people often regard sleep as a luxury and not a necessity and in so doing, they do more harm to their skin than good. You need at least 7 hours of sleep a day in order for your body to heal itself and rejuvenate vital organs such as the skin. If you get less than 8 hours of sleep in the night, make sure you compensate by having a regular 1-2 hours of naps in the afternoon. Make sure you compensate for all lost sleep hours on your off days or holiday seasons, this will help your body recover from prolonged lack of sleep, and stress.

young skin

#4: Perform some daily breathing exercises
Many people would wonder what breathing has to do with having a youthful skin. The wonderful thing about taking time to perform inhaling and exhaling activities is that they help to lower cortisol hormones, which are regarded as stress management hormones. Stress is one of the main enemies of youthful skin, hence the more you keep your stress levels under check, the more your skin will benefit.
#5: Indulge in low to moderate cardio activities
You don’t need a high intensity workout sessions to get your skin youthful, you can even indulge in fun activities such as hiking, walking in the park or riding your bicycle. Physical activities help your skin look more youthful by expanding your blood vessels and forcing the heart to pump more blood, as the heart pumps more blood, your skin pores expand, thus helping you to sweat and eliminate toxins from the upper and lower surfaces of the skin.
#6: Fight off stress through meditation
Aside from getting around 30 minutes of exercises on daily basis, holistic methods such as meditation, and visualization techniques have also been found to be helpful in maintaining a youthful skin. Meditation will not only help you manage stress more effectively, it keeps your brain healthy and when your brain functions optimally, your skin’s level of activity has been linked with several other health benefits, such as healthier skin .
#7: Schedule a periodic detox
You don’t need any herbal mixes or ingredients to detoxify your system, all you need is a collection of nutria-bullet recipes where you can extract 100% ingredients from fruits, veggies, and even nuts and seeds, which you can consume, to detoxify your body regularly.
Nutri-bullets are much more desirable than regular juicing because nutria-bullet devices are designed to extract more nutrients due to its effective motor and blade structures. Detoxifying your body means, eliminating toxins that trigger oxidation of healthy skin cells. When you eliminate unhealthy toxins, the skin will be able to produce healthier new cells that will replace the older ones, hence your skin will remain healthier and more youthful than ever.
#8: Consume clean, and organic foods
You can complement all other natural skin care methods with good, organic and skin-friendly foods. You should consider replacing your coffee with green tea for instance, and the reason being that green tea contains a high level of anti-oxidants and phyto-nutrients that reduce the risks of oxidative stress which is known to cause wrinkling and raid ageing of the skin.
Antioxidants also strengthen the body’s immunity against certain skin disorders, and they help to fight off germs. In addition to green tea, organically grown foods, such as fruits and green veggies are skin-friendly and they are known to contain numerous anti-ageing properties that will strongly benefit the skin.
You need to eliminate or drastically reduce your consumption of refined foods, including sweetened beverages that are known to contain high amount of sugar that are harmful to the skin. You should consider replacing unhealthy food components with healthy ones such as oily fish, nuts and seeds that are known to contain sin-friendly omega 3 fatty acid that smooths and nourishes the skin.
You need to ensure that your skin is adequately protected from UV rays of the sun, considering the fact that such harmful rays damage the outer skin protective layer , thus exposing the inner layer to several skin diseases and disorders, including ageing, wrinkly and brown spots.

Guest Post | The Health Benefits Exercise Has For Your Skin!

12 August 2017

Hello!

If you’ve been in the fitness game for some time, you absolutely know and love all the health benefits that regular exercise has for your mind, body and soul. Improved concentration, total body strength, enthusiasm and vigour, not to mention the healthy bodily processes such as increased metabolism and fat loss, these are all amazing benefits that make you push even harder towards reaching your goals.

And they just make you a better, healthier human being all around. Fitness is amazing in every way, and it’s not just a habit, it’s a lifestyle choice. Well, this amazing lifestyle choice has one more health benefit you’ve probably never even though of - it makes your skin look young, radiant, and beautiful. Here are the top benefits of training for your skin.

exercise

Radiant skin all year-round
Before we break it into the nuts and bolts, let’s get one thing out of the way - regular exercise does promote heathy skin along with numerous other health benefits. Being the largest organ in your body, the state of your skin is a direct reflection of your internal wellbeing. There are two key elements that will have a major impact on the health and appearance of your skin, and those are genetics and external stimuli.

Genetics, although impossible to alter, can be influenced to a certain degree, so you’re not quite left at the mercy of Mother Nature and her wrath. Positive external stimuli, such as healthy eating, natural skin treatments and of course, physical exercise, will play a pivotal role in giving your complexion the glory it deserves.

Bring these three elements together, and you will balance out genetics and external forces, creating an all year-round radiant complexion. Let’s break it down.

Exercise and O2
It’s commonplace knowledge that exercise promotes healthy blood flow throughout your body, pumping oxygenated blood into your lungs, brain, extremities and of course, your skin - it’s one of the reasons you get all red.
Oxygen intake and distribution is crucial in not only maintaining healthy breathing patterns during exercise and staying at the top of your game, but also for helping eliminate waste products, free radicals and toxins from your working cells. While the liver is responsible for detoxifying your body, you can support its efforts by helping flush cellular debris out of your system.

Added benefits of outdoor training
Training at the gym is great, but training outside is amazing. Not only that, outdoor training will boast a myriad of other health benefits for your complexion. Fresh air coupled with a hefty dose of sunshine will allow your skin to breathe and soak in the sun’s healthy rays, supplying your body with copious amounts of Vitamin D.
What’s more, outdoor training allows you to be a kid and exercise any way you want. Climb a model mountain, do some HIIT and roll around on a cool skateboard - the world if your playground. Don’t forget to wear adequate protective gear though, and find the right skateboard accessories to go with your board. Don’t miss out, grab your favourite gear and head outside!

Exercise promotes healthy sleep
Everyone knows that sleep is extremely good for you. Maintaining regular sleeping cycles will not only allow your muscles, tendons, ligaments and nervous system to recover from a day of balancing family, work, training and well, life, but it will also have a myriad of health benefits as well. This includes healthier skin.
It’s no wonder it’s called ‘beauty sleep’, as getting at least seven hours of quality shut-eye paired with a natural night-time facemask will allow your skin to rejuvenate, ready to face the day ahead.

Even if Mother Nature has dealt you a bad hand when it comes to your complexion, there are numerous ways you can influence your skin to become glowing and radiant - and fitness is one of those ways. Be sure to keep these essential benefits in mind while you slowly but confidently work your way towards your fitness goals and you will develop a radiant complexion in no time!

Guest Post | Fashion Tricks for Working Millennial Ladies

17 July 2017

Hello!

Unless you’re a millennial, chances are you won’t be able to keep up with this species. You’ll definitely get to admire them from afar and look to steal a few tricks that’ll make you just as amazing as they are, but you’ll always be left wondering “How on Earth are they juggling it all!?”. Yes, we’re giving ourselves the right to call this magnificent generation “species” as they are nothing like any generation we’ve seen before. Everything about them is at the highest speed possible: they walk, talk, type, brainstorm, chew, think, plan, laugh, and schedule meetings – all at the same time! Oh, and – apart from being extremely successful in their business fields of interest, they too manage to look amazing each time they leave the house (or just chill indoors, as well).

Fashion Tricks for Working Millennial Ladies

Naturally, with so many things to do, it sometimes feels just a tad overwhelming to resist the desire to rush into your business meeting wearing just your comfy pyjamas but hey – we’re all very much aware of the fact that fashion is more of a character statement than a beauty trick, so we do our best to impress.
Here, a quick guide to all the millennial stunners who are choosing to always look great, no matter how tired or overworked they feel:

Fashion Tricks for Working Millennial Ladies
Invest in…
…A quality leather jacket, great jeans with an even better butt support, a blazer (a blazer is a must piece to have!) and a pencil skirt (knee-length or a bit shorter). For an everyday look that fits the office but sets you apart from the dull and mundane, these three pieces can make all the difference! One pair of jeans combined with different shirts (printed, silk, buttoned up, etc) and a blazer or a pencil skirt paired with a quirky graphic shirt and nice boots will definitely make you look great. Throw that leather jacket over and you’re all set!

Fashion Tricks for Working Millennial Ladies
Rely on...
...A bodycon or a maxi that’s not too tight can easily be your ace. Wear them for cocktail parties or team building drinks. To add a little bit of seriousness and sophistication to the look, use that blazer you own to wow. A bodycon tends to look perfect on all sizes, even though it follows the line of the body. Even if you are a few numbers up the “regular size” (whatever that is), browse through a variety of plus size women’s clothing and find the dress that’ll look amazing on your shape.

Fashion Tricks for Working Millennial Ladies
Don’t forget to pamper
Clothing alone does not make a style; it’s all about a combination of your fashion style and personal hygiene. To a millennial woman who is always on the go, it’s essential she doesn’t skip her beauty routine (otherwise, she’ll quickly fall into the rut and look years older than she is) and health habits. Don’t skip on your hairdresser appointments or your facials, ever! Have a massage at least once in two weeks and make sure you include at least some physical activity into your day (at least, walk to work). As for nutrition, always have a bottle of water with you, avoid pre-packed and greasy foods, eat greens, take your supplements regularly (your hair vitamins, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, etc) and try to squeeze in a nap in between meetings (no, we’re not joking). We know you are a superwoman, but even she needs to rest a bit!

Fashion Tricks for Working Millennial Ladies

Double C – chic and casual
A millennial lady boss simply can’t give in to a style that’s too tight or too… anything. The more casual the better. However, this doesn’t mean coming into work in your sweats. Rather, making sure you combine your pieces in such a manner that you’re comfy sitting through all the meetings you’ve got without secretly unbuttoning your jeans. Essentially, don’t force a fashion style onto your life – rather, work your style into your life and adjust it.

Steal from Pinterest
When the inspiration fails you, just go to Pinterest and steal a few tricks. There are plenty of amazing ideas to find inspiration in, so got for it. Nope, you aren’t a copycat; you are a smart woman who knows where to look for information. Simple!

Dear millennial lioness, stay amazing and use our advice for the best! Good luck!

Guest Post | Why Night Cream Is an Essential Part of Your Skincare Routine

10 June 2017

Hello!

Taking care of your skin is one of the best things you can do for yourself, and if you want to know how to do it properly, just keep on reading. Here are some useful tips on how to come up with an effective skincare routine that features one of the beneficial products on the market – a night cream. Enjoy!

The importance of a proper skincare routine

night creams

We can’t emphasise enough the importance of appropriate skincare routine. First of all, skin is your largest organ that can quickly absorb almost anything you apply to it, which is exactly why you should give your best to give it proper care. Of course, your skincare routine should be tailored particularly for your skin type, so make sure to determine it in the first place. Once that’s done, you should do a little research on the products appropriate for your skin. There are many specific formulas designed for different skin types, so be sure to look for one that suits your needs in the best possible way. From a day cream, which is essential throughout the day, to a night one that’s crucial during night – all these skincare products are really important if you want to take care of yourself, so don’t skip any of them!

What should my everyday skincare routine consist of?

night creams

The first step in any effective skincare routine is cleansing, so you need to get a gentle, water-soluble cleanser to remove excess oil, debris, dirt and makeup residue from your face. Just make sure that your cleanser doesn’t contain alcohol, since it can really dry out your skin. Toner comes next, and it is designed to calm your skin and make it much smoother. Besides that, it also contains some essential skin-replenishing ingredients that are much needed after cleansing. Moisturiser is another crucial product, because it keeps your skin hydrated and nourished all day long. Needless to say, a night cream is an absolute must, since your skin tends to lose essential moisture at night. That’s why you should help it restore hydration and absorb active ingredients. You should also incorporate a high-quality serum into your skincare routine if you haven’t already. This product will even out your skin tone and offer anti-ageing protection, which is definitely what you should look for!

Why should I use a night cream?

night creams

As already stated, night creams and serums are particularly beneficial because they contain a wide range of ingredients essential for proper nourishment. These are designed to improve your skin while you’re sleeping, which is why you shouldn’t skip them under any circumstances. Apart from moisturising and hydrating your skin, these also have a power of repairing damage caused by the sun’s rays, air pollution, free radicals, and even makeup. Their active ingredients are beyond beneficial, especially if you’re always on the go and don’t have much time to take proper care of your skin on a daily basis. Of course, a good night cream should be a legitimate part of your skincare routine once you reach 30, so make sure to get it as soon as possible!

How to pick an appropriate night cream?

night creams

Lightweight formulas such as gels and serums are perfect for oily skin, since they won’t make it feel sticky and greasy all day long. On the other hand, dry skin requires a bit thicker products that provide enough hydration and nourishment. Sensitive skin is particularly tricky, but you really don’t have to worry – organic beauty products are gaining momentum these days, and they’re great for all skin types, including sensitive! Of course, night creams are also very important when it comes to anti-ageing, so don’t skip them if the first fine lines have shown. As you age, your skin becomes much drier and less elastic, which results in dull skin and wrinkles, but don’t worry – you can slow that down by using an appropriate night cream!

As you can see, a proper night cream can really save your skin by nourishing it to the max and preventing wrinkles and fine lines. Just make sure to pick the proper one for your skin type, and you’re halfway there!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Rose Blush Review

08 June 2017

Hello!

A couple of months ago now I went on a little shopping trip to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet and while I was there I popped into the Make-up Outlet store!

I managed to pick up a few items but my main reason for going in was to find a new lipstick for work. Yes, I probably have a handful at home I could already use BUT I wanted to find a shade that would match my all time favourite Rimmel lipstick from the Kate Moss Nude range.

In the end I decided on Rose Blush from Rimmel's Moisture Renew range as it seemed like a nice pinky nude shade that I could wear in the day or to work. I've brought other shades from the Moisture Renew collection and I've been really impressed with their glossy and long-lasting formula. It's almost like you can't believe it's a high street brand!

Now I wouldn't say this is a perfect match for my favourite but for £2.99, it's still a great lipstick and I'm hardly going to moan!

DIY | My New Under The Stairs Cupboard

05 June 2017

Hello!

It's been a while since I actually sat down and blogged and the main reason for that is because I've been bitten by the DIY bug! I've been so busy thinking of all the new and interesting things I can do to my house that I thought that maybe I should start writing about it all to share it with you guys!

My latest project was dealing with that awkward space under the stairs or as I call it, the "dumping ground". Back in the day it used to home our tumble dryer and fridge but since having my new kitchen fitted and therefore putting the appliances in there, this space has been empty.

After doing a bit of searching through Pinterest for inspiration, I came across the below picture and I knew I had to recreate it for my own house.

https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/337770040792473097/

Now before I started this project I had looked into getting a professional in and have proper drawers etc fitted and they were asking for well over £1k! No thanks. My Pinterest alternative cost me under £100 with the majority of it being spent on this Ikea shelving unit and these Ikea wardrobe doors for the cupboard.

After

As you can see I'm decorating the rest of the hallway at the moment so I know it looks a bit crappy but cupboard-wise, I'm really happy!

I'll leave a little link here back to the blog that helped me with the idea and a bit more of a "how to do".

Guest Post | Hair Hacks Every Woman Should Know!

01 June 2017

Hello!

Everyone’s looking for simple ways to make their hair look and feel better. With that in mind, try these handy hair hacks to learn everything from how to bring body to your hair and how to keep it looking shiny and smooth. Know your products, hair tools and accessories well and you will have a good hair day every day! Combine these simple hair hacks with other styling tips like how to straighten hair – which you can find here

Here’s everything you need to know to give your hair that everlasting stroke-worthy look.

Instant shine is just one brush away: Boar bristle brushes lift your scalp’s natural oils from your roots and redistribute them along the length of your strands. This helps your hair look cleaner, shinier and smoother. For thick hair, go for a bristle and nylon brush to detangle your mane too.

Curls – the fast way: Want curls, but don’t have much time? Try this easy hair hack: make a ponytail on top of your head. Divide your hair into two sections. Curl each one. Bend forward to pull out the hairband, so your hair is over your face. Being careful of your eyes, apply hairspray. Then flip your hair back for instant curls!

The one accessory you need for a full ponytail: Bring body to your ponytail with a butterfly clip hidden inside. Divide your ponytail in half, holding the upper part against your head. Place the clip in the middle of your ponytail, with the grips on either side. Backcomb the top half of your ponytail, apply hairspray and then smooth down.

The easy route to sleek hair: If you want to know how to straighten hair with a sleek finish, start by cold rinsing after washing to lock in precious moisture. Use a hairdryer with a narrow nozzle and a round brush to smooth your hair from roots to ends, section by section. And never skip the application of heat protection spray before styling!

Take a look at more hair hacks below for quick and easy ways to style your hair:

Essence Super Precise Eyeliner Review!

12 May 2017

Hello!

When it comes to eye make-up, I'm pretty boring. I'll admit it! Since I was probably around the 16/17 year old mark I discovered liquid eyeliner and I've never really gone back. If it's not broken and all...

Because of this though, that means I've had a few years of testing out different types of eyeliners and I come to find what I love and what works for me. Normally I would tend to go with the felt tip eyeliner but recently I've been drifitng towards the more liquid eyeliner.

On one of my recent trips to Wilkos, I made a sneaky visit to their Essence make-up range and their Super Precise Eyeliner just hopped into my basket. Weird?

As I said above, I do normally go for felt tip style eyeliners but I do love the precision I've been able to get with this one - hence the name. As you can see from the swatch as well, it's thin and precise but can be easily layered up for a thicker effect. It's super easy to apply and it lasts throughout the day and for £2.30, what more do you want?!

If you're looking for a cheap eyeliner for work or just in the day, this is definitely something to try! You can check it out on the Wilko's website here.

Bourjois Souffle de Velvet Rouge Edition in Carameli Melo Review!

Hello!

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a shopaholic, especially when it comes to make-up but it's nice every once in a while to treat yourself to a new lipstick. Well I do anyway!

Well on the last bank holiday, I went to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet and popped into their Beauty Outlet Store to pick up a few goodies. One of the things that I picked up was the Boujois Souffle de Velvet in Carameli Melo.

I cannot explain how much I love this lipstick. It's just perfect!

The formula is really creamy and just glides on your lips with no hassle. Although it gives a slight matte look, it didn't dry my lips out or "crack" and actually felt quite moisturising.

The only thing I would say needs a bit of improvement is it's lasting power but since I love the colour so much, I don't mind nipping to the toilet for a top up every now and then!

If you're interested in this, you can check it out here for £8.99 on Boots' website!
