George Autumn/Winter Wishlist

23 December 2017

Hello!

It feels like it's been ages since I actually went out and did some retail therapy. Since losing my job and worrying about losing the house etc, I've spent the past couple of months saving as much money as possible.

ALTHOUGH I've been trying to be good with my money, that doesn't mean it's stopped me from doing a little bit of cheeky window shopping on all the popular retailer websites. From New Look to River Island to Peacocks, I've probably been on them all and the one thing they all had in common was I didn't like anything. Anything! Everything seemed to be "not my style" or just overly priced for what it was. And then I clicked onto the Asda George website. Within about 10 minutes of being on the website, my basket has about 20 items in it. I just couldn't help myself.

To not let my window shopping go to waste, I thought I would make a small "wishlist" post for you all to see how amazing George is doing at the moment in the fashion department.

Bring on payday!

Things I'm Loving | December 2017

21 December 2017

Hello!

1. Strangers Things

stranger things 2

It's back!!
I have to admit that I was a little obsessed when they released the first season of Stranger Things. It was like nothing I'd ever watched before and every episode just seemed to keep me hooked so I had no other option but to keep watching. The second season is exactly the same and it's even answered a few questions I had. Bring on season 3 now!

#TeamDustin

2. Burgundy
burgundy coat primark
It's burgundy season again! YAY
From September to maybe April, I wear nothing other than red, specifically burgundy. It's a gorgeous warm colour for those upcoming colder months and I think it's one of those colours that just looks great on everyone. The one burgundy item that I've been going mad over is the faux sheep skin collar coat from Primark. I saw a few other bloggers wearing it and I raced to my local store to go and pick one up!

3. Face Masks
face masks
Probably shouldn't admit this but me and my boyfriend have been loving face masks recently! I love relaxing in a hot bubble bath, a few candles lit and maybe even a nice glass of Rose with a face mask on. I'm really hoping someone buys me some more for Christmas!

4. Disney

beauty and the beast disney

Ever since the release of the live action version of Beauty and the Beast, I've become a bit addicted to Disney. From watching old favourites movies to buying all the Beauty and the Beast merchandise from Primark that everyone is going mental about. It's a little worrying for a 27 year old woman.

5. Christmas!

Christmas

Obviously Christmas is on the list as it's less than a week to go now and I'm SO excited! I hate to be one of those girls who rub relationships into faces of people who are single, but having a partner at Christmas time makes it all the more special to me. Last year I was single and woke up alone in my house and pretty much just watched movies and slept all afternoon. Not so fun. This year though, I've got loads of different things planned and I just can't wait!

Guest Post | Party Season: Head to Toe Trends to Celebrate

15 December 2017

Hello!

One of the best things about Winter is that it contains the most glamorous time of year; party season! There are so many events on throughout December, from office parties to gatherings with friends and family plus Christmas and New Year too of course. That’s a whole lot of outfits, hairdos and makeup looks to plan. It’s fun to try out the latest trends, so here are my picks of the best party trends to try from head to toe, including hairstyles, special outfits and the most on-trend shades of lipstick, eye shadow and nail polish.

Party season hairstyles

If ever there’s a time to pull out all the stops with your ‘do, it’s party season. You don’t have to head to the salon to have a professional stylist primp your perfect plaits and updos, however. Take a DIY approach and learn how to do it yourself at home. Braids are bang on trend, so experiment with different versions of this style, from the fishtail plait and the Dutch braid to the crown plait and the pull through braid. There’s lots of information online to help you have a go. For example, if you want to try a pull through braid, see tutorial here.

Party season makeup

Glitter lovers rejoice at this time of year, as party season is all about sparkle and that never changes. You can attach temporary gems to your face around your eyes and brows, or slick on a layer of glimmering eyeliner and mascara with flecks of glitter. If full-on shimmer isn’t your scene, metallic eye shadow is a perfect way to embrace the latest makeup trends without going quite so far into bling territory. As for lips, deep berry tones are very much the trend all Winter long, so make a statement now and you can keep wearing those dark red and purple shades for the rest of the season.

Party season nails

party season trends to celebrate

Nail art gets really fun during party season, as the festive-themed nail wraps and tutorials start to stack up. Candy canes, snowflakes and reindeer are all a fun way to bring a Christmassy touch to your nail art. If you prefer chic style over novelty on your nails, then look to the Autumn/Winter 2017 catwalks for inspiration. Dark metallic shades like gold were all the rage at Mulberry and there was a matted-down metallic silver at Daks, while frosted white glitter was the ice queen effect at Sophia Webster. All of these pair perfectly with party season’s other key trends.

Party season fashion

Velvet is the key texture across fashion and homewares in Autumn/Winter 2017, so it makes sense to indulge in this luxury fabric at this most luxe time of year. Try it in shimmering silver shades or deep berry tones for the ideal accompaniment to your makeup and nails. A party dress is always a go-to option, but you can mix things up this year with the trend for jumpsuits; so much more chic than jeans and a top, and a great alternative to a maxi dress. As for shoes, embellished, glittery and sparkling styles all are on-trend. Ankle boots are where it’s at in terms of shape, if you’d prefer not to wear that party season staple, high heels.

As with all trends, it’s all about how you work them to make them match your own individual style. This is such a fun time of year to embrace new looks. Enjoy party season!

Guest Post | How to Look Good at a Christmas Party

09 December 2017

Hello!

how to look good at the christmas party
Source

Holiday time is finally here, and the excitement in the air is almost palpable. December is the time of pristine white snow covering the top of our houses, making them look like icing on a cake, it’s the time of spiced apple cider and hot pies, the perfect moment for gifts and family. Of course, it’s also the time of glitz, glamour, and parties! The Christmas party was always my cherry on top when it comes to holiday celebrations, and I can never wait to start getting ready and rock a pretty little look every year. One could say I’m a pro when it comes to these things now. Regardless of the kind of party you’re attending this year, I’ve got a few nice tips to share that will help you look splendidly gorgeous and have a ton of fun!

Indulge in some beauty treatments

The best way to look like a goddess for a party is to feel like a goddess! Why not visit your cosmetician and treat yourself to something nice? I always go to the same skin clinic in Sydney and I like to get microdermabrasion a week or two before the event because then I know I’ll have perfectly smooth, velvety skin. Just indulge yourself, maybe you get some dermal fillers, maybe you get a little spa time, whatever you enjoy. It’s important to pamper ourselves and these little beautifying treatments can get us in just the right mood for the party.

Wax at the right time

Don’t wax the day before the party unless you want red spots to show on your skin! Three to five days is a much better idea.

Careful with the self-tan

That bronze summer glow is beautiful, but do be careful not to overdo it. Similarly to waxing, it’s best not to do it the night before. A week or two should be enough time for your skin tone to even out and look smooth.

Let your dentist give you a row of pearly whites

how to look good at a Christmas party

One of the best parts of Christmas parties are the photos! I love taking selfies with my friends, I love those beautiful family pictures. I want my smile to be absolutely perfect for those, so I have a habit of seeing this excellent cosmetic dentist in Sydney every December for a little teeth whitening. If you haven’t seen your dentist in a while, it’s always good to do it before Christmas and New Year. Imagine yourself with a bright red lipstick and blinding white teeth, charming hearts with your big grin.

Pick the right outfit

While Christmas is not really the time for revealing outfits, that doesn’t mean you can’t still be sexy. We’re going for elegance, we’re going for a refined, beautiful look that’s a little seductive, and very sophisticated. I recommend a silk blouse and a cashmere sweater paired with a pencil skirt, or perhaps a red or emerald wrap dress that looks gorgeous on any body type and gives you a dose of feminine allure. Add shimmery accessories – a slim bracelet, or a pair of dangling earrings, and a belt to go around your waist.

Perfect your makeup game

how to look good at a Christmas party

Makeup can be a real game-changer on a party, because it can either bring out your best features and make you look gorgeous in pictures, or it can smudge and become runny and make you look sloppy. To ensure it lasts all day, you want to use a good primer, and a good setting spray (like Urban Decay All Nighter). For a sultry, bombshell look that’s still perfectly appropriate for family dinners, try a chocolate cranberry smokey eye that will bring out all the glam and make your eyes really pop.

One last tip, ladies: practice your makeup and wear your outfit before the actual party. You want to see how it all looks on you and change up the details you’re not satisfied with. Otherwise, bring good mood and your smiles, and enjoy the food, the booze, and the company!

Life Update | Where Have I Been?!

12 November 2017

Hello!

3 Months.

That's how long it's been since I wrote my last blog post.

The reason for that is life has just been a bit hectic since. In the space of about two months I'd got in a relationship, went on holiday, lost my job, went on holiday again, had a mental breakdown thinking I was going to lose my house and then got another job. Mental, right?

Things have started to settle back down now though and I'm hoping that I'll get back into the rhythm of blogging again!

Guest Post | How to Get Your Hair and Skin Ready for Party Season

10 November 2017

Hello!

Party season is coming and that means Winter is also right around the corner. This cold season can wreak havoc on your hair and skin if you’re not careful, but with a few simple steps you can stay on top of things and keep your hair and skin looking healthy and beautiful throughout Christmas and into the New Year. Combating the harsh effects of weather and tweaking your beauty regime to best suit the season will give you good results. So, with that in mind let’s look at a handful of top tips for looking after yourself this Winter.

Fight the dryness

guest post hair and skin party ready
As the harsh winds and freezing temperatures cause irritation and dryness you are going to have to fight back. For your skin that means regularly moisturising – morning and night. If you want to look fabulous top to toe this party season you have to pay particular attention to your hands, lips and feet; cracking is the last thing you want when you want to show off that Christmassy nail polish or that lovely lipstick at your office’s Christmas party. In terms of  hair, a weekly deep conditioning treatment will give it a boost and help stop your scalp from  drying out too – your locks should be ready to host the perfect New Year’s Eve hairstyle if you take care of them in advance.

Go easy on the hair styling

guest post hair skin beauty ready for party season

As your hair is already under a lot of stress from the elements you don’t want to add to that by overusing hair products – save it until the end of December when you’ll probably be investing in some party hairstyling. Go easy on the mousse and sprays, and use your styling tools sparingly. Your hair is already fighting damage and dryness, and the intense heat from straighteners, tongs and hairdryers is not going to help. A great way round this is to choose cool styles that don’t require a lot of help to stay in place. One of the best is a chic and always trendy Dutch braid – see tutorial here.

Protection from the elements

guest post hair and skin party ready

When you’re out and about in Winter it’s inevitable that harsh weather is going to hit you. The best way to lessen the impact of intense cold, strong winds and heavy rain is to cover up, especially if you’re planning to spend the holiday season skiing. Buy a cosy Winter hat or scarf to wrap around your head. Use an oversized neck scarf or snood not only as a cool accessory, but to pull over your face when it gets really cold.

Flush out the toxins

guest post hair and skin party ready

Regular exercise can play a huge role in maintaining healthy hair and skin, but the temptation is to slack off in Winter. Stay motivated though. You won’t just feel better and have more energy; you’ll also give your hair and skin a boost. That’s because exercise helps flush out toxins in the body, reducing the risk of breakouts and helping to maintain glossy locks and clear skin.

Be strategic with the shampoo

guest post hair and skin party ready

This may be a good time to take a closer look at your hair washing routine. It’s a good idea to cut back on shampooing in Winter, so if you’re someone who likes to wash their hair every day cut back to two or three times a week. Also, turn the temperature down. No one’s saying that you need to wash in freezing cold water! But excessively hot water is not going to be good for your hair, or skin for that matter. Go with warm or lukewarm water and try giving your hair a cool rinse every now and then too.

From fighting the dryness with moisturising and conditioning products to opting for replacing product-heavy styles with natural looks like a Dutch braid, there are plenty of ways you can protect your skin and hair in Winter, getting yourself ready to look your best when party season begins! Being prepared is the first step and now that you’re armed with these top tips, start your new beauty routine as soon as possible – Christmas is just around the corner.

Guest Post | Beauty Regrets - It Happens to the Best of Us!

07 November 2017

Hello!

We’ve all been there… Plucking our eyebrows way too much, popping zits, being too tanned, messing up our hair trying to get the right colour ourselves, etc. I know I’ve made a whole bunch of these mistakes, but at least I’m not alone and it gives me a fair dosage of comfort. Nevertheless, in order to minimize the number of people going through all these horrors, I’ve put together a list of NOs for all girls to read and get the chance to prevent certain disasters instead of having to mend them.

beauty regrets

Eyebrows or no brows?

beauty regrets

This is something that every girl must have been through. It’s so mysterious, as you pluck your eyebrows, they’re never equal which leads to you having to “fix” the other one. After that, the results are the same. Then you think “Yeah, I could make them just a bit thinner by plucking the first one again”. After a certain repetition of the steps, you suddenly realize you basically have no eyebrows whatsoever! It happened to me many times and, unfortunately, once right before I had to get my picture taken for my ID. That picture still stands as a constant reminder that having a bit more hair on one brow than the other is much better than no hair on either.

Undergoing surgery

beauty regrets

Nowadays, girls grow up watching reality TV and their idols are mostly women that consider plastic surgery to be just a regular part of their monthly routine. This is why many young girls dream of undergoing procedures such as hair removal and liposuction in order to fix their problems. There’s absolutely no need to undergo surgery. I opted for a simple non-surgical liposuction in Melbourne, since it’s close to my hometown, Sydney. The procedure is less invasive than surgical liposuction and it gives great results. This is why I’m personally very supportive of the method.

Got to love that burnt skin

beauty regrets

The issue of being tanned is very popular among girls with various natural skin tones. For instance, I have very light skin and therefore, I’m very self-conscious about my tan and I try to keep my summer tan as long as I can with the help of various skin products and light towel tapping in order to dry my skin after showering. However, sometimes I go to a tanning salon and get an easy fix. Anyway, there were times I burnt my skin and times I went too far and got a much darker tan than my natural one, which was not only unappealing, but also seriously unhealthy for my skin.

Stress manifests as a form of self-mutilation

beauty regrets

Biting nails, popping zits, aggressively removing scabs and other habits people have for dealing with stress are very widespread and zit-popping was mine. You shouldn’t do it. It won’t help the stress, it will only increase it since you’ll be having a problem with your appearance in addition to the problem you’ve had before.

Hopefully, some of you will read this and learn from the ones that have already made these mistakes. However, don’t obsess about perfection. Everybody fails in all aspects of their lives, even the best of us. It’s necessary and completely natural. That is why we can relax knowing that sometimes it will happen to us, too, and that’s OK. Nevertheless, we can and should still strive for perfection. Read, watch and educate yourself as much as you can in order to minimize the number of mistakes and try to be the best version of yourself.

Guest Post | Unique Wedding Ring Designs

24 October 2017

Hello!

Wedding ceremonies across the world have been diverse and rich in meaning and culture. Different traditions have different ways of exchanging wedding vows. Despite all these differences, the one thing that always stands out is the exchange of rings between couples. Wedding rings have been prevalent across cultures and traditions as a form of commitment and solidarity towards each other.

Traditional wedding rings are usually simple, elegant bands of gold. Both men and women have worn them throughout the ages. The engagement ring is usually a sparkly stone set in gold or platinum which is then worn along with a simple gold wedding band. However, if you want a unique experience and are adventurous enough to try new patterns or designs, then we’ve got you covered.

Textured rings

unique wedding ring designs
Textured wedding rings are the latest trend in wedding bands. Not quite the old band of gold, but not too far from it either. If you crave a touch of the old mixed with something new, then this should be your ideal pattern. Textured wedding rings can be easily made to size with different metals like yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, silver, platinum, and black rhodium. Opt for a textured wedding ring that can be worn by you and your partner. It retains the simplicity of the wedding band but with a modern twist!

Crown patterned rings:
unique wedding ring designs
If you’re up to date with the latest developments in rings fashion, then you would have seen the ‘Crown’. Crown patterned rings are considered worthy of a Queen. These rings are made with lacy or filigree patterns of a crown that goes around the entire ring on a solid metal base. If you want, you could also add small diamonds or coloured stones to give depth to your ring. These rings look gorgeous in yellow gold but are also very popular in white gold.

Plaited rings:

unique wedding ring designs
Many modern brides choose to retain a part of their childhood with plaited rings. Reminiscent of their younger years, these brides take great pride in including their journey from young girls to strong independent women through plaited rings. These rings signify the transition into womanhood. If you aren’t very sentimental to this ideology but like the design, then make sure you select a chic, slightly rustic looking wedding gown to enhance your plaited wedding ring. This ring looks fabulous in sterling silver, white gold, and platinum.

Floral designs:
unique wedding ring designs
The connection to nature and natural beauty is very prominent through floral designed rings. You can opt for leafy patterns, floral designs, small diamond or ruby floral clustered rings, or a band of ivy vines. You can also wear floral rings without your engagement ring ince these carry a depth of meaning on their own. However, if you’re averse to the idea of a stand-alone ring, you should design your floral wedding ring such that it complements your engagement ring.

Rustic designs:

unique wedding ring designs
Rustic and vintage looking rings are making a huge comeback. Many couples, who wish to keep their traditions intact, yet want a modern twist to their vows, opt for rustic designs. Scattered diamonds in an uneven metallic frame add elegance and uniqueness to your overall design. You could also consider a vintage patterned ring and recreate it to add more meaning to your own vows. Liberal use of diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sometimes pearls can add greater meaning to your rustic ring.

Nature inspired designs:
unique wedding ring designs
Nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts usually love this pattern! Rings inspired from fish
scales, horseshoes, paw prints, bird wing designs, or butterfly and dragonfly designs have created a new niche. You can order any of these rings in white gold, yellow gold, filigree gold patterns, and platinum. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also create your own nature ring by adding gemstones and diamonds to create the animal motif of your choice.
Artisan crafted sterling silver rings inlaid with coloured stones like rubies and emeralds are also a popular choice to show your connection to nature.

Wooden rings:
unique wedding ring designs
Many modern couples are selecting wooden rings against traditional metallic rings. Some also prefer a combination of wood with metal. Opt for metals like tungsten and titanium against Koa wood and Rosewood to create greater dimensions to your wedding band. These are also favoured by couples who believe in sustainable jewellery and want a creative way to express their style.

Have a detailed discussion with your partner on which designs you both would be comfortable wearing daily. This could help bring you both closer and further your commitment towards each other.

Guest Post | 5 Make-up Hacks That Will Make Your Life A Lot Easier!

22 October 2017

Hello!

Being a make-up artist and stylist myself, I have done make-up on millions of faces in all the years I’ve spent in this industry, and I have experience of putting on make-up on all skin types and face shapes. In all these years, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks and I would love to share them with you guys!

A Bright And Glowing Complexion:

5 makeup hacks
The first step of your make-up routine would be achieving a radiant and glowing complexion, which is easily achieved by mixing your foundation with a moisturiser. This creates a satin-like finish over the skin when finally topped off with a highlighter. Another reason I opt for this hack is that diluted foundation has a lesser chance of becoming cakey and it melts very naturally into the skin.

The Perfect Crease:

5 makeup hacks
I love how with little experiments, you find that some products can end up serving more than one purpose. If you use a bit of bronzer in the base of your eye shadow on top of primer, you give the eye a good base to put eye shadow on. Similarly, if your eye shadow has turned out a bit darker than usual, you do not need to completely wipe it all off. Just dab a clean eye shadow brush in a bronzer and with light strokes blend it into your eye shadow to lighten it by one or two tones. This tip works like magic!

Perfectly Curled Lashes:

5 makeup hacks
To get those amazing upward curled lashes, you must already be using a lash curler. What if I told you there’s a better way of using it? Grab your blow dryer and heat your lash curler with the hot air. Make sure it doesn’t get too hot, then curl your lashes and lock in mascara to get perfect and longer-lasting mascara. Lash curls stay in place for longer duration depending on what mascara you’re using, find yourself a mascara that's long-lasting with a great finish to pull off the perfectly curled lashes look.

Matching Lip & Cheek:

5 makeup hacks
I’m going to give you a compound hack for this one; tinting your cheeks and lips in matching hues gives a very vibrant, natural look especially if you’re using the shades of pink. To get this look, keep a lip stain with you. It defines and colours the lips boldly and you can simply rub some on your cheeks to get a rosy shade. Or, grab your blush and mix some of it in a clear scented lip balm to give your lips some colour.

Translucent Powder:
5 makeup hacks
This one product serves has a make-up setter, oil-control mechanism and a thickening agent. Once you’re done with your make-up, never forget to dust some translucent powder on your cheeks and the rest of face to set the make-up in. It gives a luxuriously matte texture to the skin. In between two coats of mascara, it serves as a lash thickener. If you apply a little translucent powder in between your layers of lipstick, it stays on for longer.

I hope these simple and universal make-up hacks will help you step up your make-up game. Stay beautiful!

AW17 Fashion Forecast: The On-Trend Looks of the Season

04 September 2017

Hello!

Autumn is on the way; in just a few short weeks it will officially be autumn, which means that autumn and winter fashion will soon come into play. Bearing that in mind, now is the ideal time to revamp your wardrobe and prepare it for the coming season.

Of course, knowing what looks are set to be hot will help with that, so below is a guide to the AW17 fashion forecast, detailing all of the most on-trend looks that are set to take the fashion industry by storm this autumn.

This coming season there will be plenty of similar trends to SS17, we will also see many trends from AW16 reappearing. Along with those old trends, there are also sure to be some new on-trend looks.

For your guide to what to wear this coming season to ensure that your look is always bang on trend, read on.

red dress.jpg

Red is the colour of the season

Each season has a colour; last autumn that colour was pink - pastel pink to be exact. This season, the colour of the season is red. From pillar box red to deep maroon, red is set to be the colour of AW17. As for how red should be worn this season, it’s all about going big and bold. Red can be worn as an accompaniment to a plain outfit, but this season it’s best worn as the main part of a look. The fantastic thing about red is that it tends to flatter all skin tones, and so, can be easily pulled off by anyone.

layers.jpg

Layering is right on trend

For the past few seasons, layering has been a big trend, and AW17 is no different. This autumn layering is set to be a big part of many looks. Whether it’s teaming a denim pinafore dress with a capped sleeved t-shirt or layering a flannel shirt over skinny jeans and a cami top, layering is set to be big this season.

t.jpg

Slogan tees are big business

For the past few seasons, slogan tees have been a fashion staple, and that isn’t about to change anytime soon. Slogan tees are set to be bigger than ever this season, with more and more brands launching their own chic designs and styles. When it comes to what to team these tees with, it’s all about simplicity: think mum jeans and trainers, skinny jeans and ballet flats, or tuck your slogan tee into a denim skirt and pair with a chunky knit cardigan. To add a little something extra to your look, incorporating a bold piece of jewellery, such as something from Jaubalet Paris bespoke jewellery, could work well. You don’t want to take precedence away from the slogan, but you do want to add glamour to the t-shirt.

tights.jpg

Tights are a worthwhile investment

Tights have always been seen as an accessory to a look, but not this season. Oh no, tights are set to become the main part of many looks. Wondering why that is? Well, this coming season tights that are bright and bold are set to be huge. Outfit combinations like LBDs and bright, bold tights and denim skirts, plain tees, and patterned tights are set to be big.

There you have it, your guide to the trends that are set to be big this coming season.
