April | Birchbox x Boden

Hello!

Another month has gone by and that brings another Birchbox! April's box is special as they've teamed up with Boden to bring us 5 gorgeous products, including 2 full size ones. Woo!

The one thing that I love about Birchbox over Glossybox is the actual boxes. Yes, Glossybox would have special boxes sometimes but there's something even cuter about Birchbox. Am I the only one?

What's in this months box:

Manna Kadar High Definition Powder | £27
Apparently this is full size? Really?! For nearly £30!? I don't think I'll be getting much use out of it because I'll be scared to waste it!

ModelCo Eye Define Crayon Liner | £11
Gotta love a new eyeliner and although I do tend to pick felt tip or liquid eyeliners more, I'm still really excited to give this one a go!

Polaar IcePure Gentle Scrub with Arctic Cotton |  £23.50
What is it with this box having very expensive products in? I don't think I'd be paying over £20 for a face scrub. Slightly too pricey for me!

Luseta Beauty Keratin Smooth Conditioner | £5
My hair has been pretty dry recently so a good conditioner is definitely appreciated right now! It smells amazing

Baija Paris Creme Moana in Fleur de Tiare |  £15.90
I love the packaging of this cream and it makes me want to go on holiday. Just me? This also smells pretty amazing as well!

April | Things I'm Loving!

Hello!

I really enjoy reading "things I'm loving" posts as I always find them really interesting, plus I always get a few good recommendations from shows or products. A couple of months have passed since my last one so of course I had to write about them!

1. The Last Man on Earth
the last man on earth

How I have never watched this show before I will never know. Needless to say, I am now in love and have already finished off the first two seasons in less than a week! I am a huge fan of Bob's Burgers and it's nice to branch out and find another good show with Kristen Schaal in!

2. Gardening
garden instagram

Who knew I was so green-fingered? Because I certainly didn't! I've now found myself strolling down the gardening aisles at my local B&Q and I actually enjoy it. I'm so excited for Summer to come so I can get out in my new garden!

3. Spring!
spring

Speaking of the Summer weather, I'm so happy that Spring is here! Having the lighter morning and nights has really motivated me to get my ass in gear with my house and my diet instead of just coming home from work and slumbing in front of the TV all night.

4. Catfish
catfish tv show mtv

I used to watch Catfish a few years back but I kinda went off it - there's only so much drama you can take! BUT I have got back into it again and the newest episodes have been so good! I've got so addicted that I've gone back and started watching from the start again.

5. Calligraphy
calligraphy

One thing I really wanted to challenge myself with this year was to learn new skills and the first one that came to mind was Calligraphy. Majority of all bloggers use Calligraphy fonts in their blogs and I'd love to be able to create something without the use of Photoshop. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen that I've recently purchased a Kirstie Allsopp Calligraphy set and so far I'm really enjoying it. Watch this space!

Guest Post | How to Match Clothes When You're Clueless About Colour-Matching!

Hello!

Most folks are hesitant in wearing colours since they think they know very little or nothing about matching colours. Wearing dark, strong colours all the time make you look dull. You have to include a touch of shading in your day by day life to look stylish and trendy.

This article is for those colour shy folks who discover trouble in coordinating colours in a way that they synchronise with each other to deliver an outfit that is satisfying to the eye. You don't have to stress any longer as this article will give you five new outfit ideas that you can use to spruce up to look polished without confronting the trouble of coordinating the correct mix.

http://www.simplyspaced.com/2015/03/18/color-coding-closet-organizers-secret-weapon/

Start with neutral colours:

Neutral colours incorporate white, grey, black, cream and shades of navy blue. This group of neutral colours combine up extraordinarily well with the majority of the hues.

If you begin with this set of colours, the odds of you turning out badly will aggregate up to almost zero. Wearing them will give you certainty and you won't confront any trouble in coordinating different colours as they pair up with almost all colours and all outfit types. For instance match up grey sweaters with some dark coloured smart pants.

Pair up normal colours with neutral colours:

Presently this progression can be somewhat risky for guys who know nothing about colour matching. But if you have picked up confidence in wearing neutral colours you can move to the next step of pairing normal with neutral colours. This group incorporate yellow, red, green and so forth. However if you are matching a bright shade with a strong dull shade the general blend will be something more subtle rather than vivid. So you won't feel over conscious about your outfit. The vital thing to remember is that pick just those colours that compliment your personality.

How to utilise complimentary hues:
Complimentary colours are those that are found at the opposite sides of a shading wheel. The word complimentary does not imply that wearing these colours will compliment your personality.

For starters it is best to avoid these colours. But they can work for you pair up colours wisely by choosing one paler shade and one brighter shade. For instance take a stab at matching pale gold with blue colour.

How to utilise analogous hues:

Closely resembling colours lie beside each other on a colour wheel. This implies they are the diverse shades of a similar colour. So in the event that you would prefer not to go for strong hues pick more subtle shades that compliment your skin tone and your identity. It is advisable to use one neutral and two analogous colours on the grounds that with this mix you can never turn out badly.

Choose just those hues that compliment your personality:

Ultimately pick just those colours that compliments your identity. Regardless of what shading you like if it doesn't look great on you it is not for you. Figure out how to blend and match just those colours that compliment you and we can promise you can never turn out badly!

New Monthly Box! | Birchbox March 2017

Hello!

A couple of weeks ago I wrote my last blog review for Glossybox because I was getting fed up of the same old products and missing the £15 a month. The next day though I found myself signing up to Birchbox! Will I ever learn?

To be fair to me, I was thinking of making the switch for a while now as I have been unhappy with Glossybox and it just so happened to be that around the same time, Birch box was sending out the new Benefit Lip Stick in their next box so the decision was quite easy!

birchbox march 2017

Inside this months box:

Balance Me Instant Lift Primer | £22
I've used this a couple of times now and I in all honestly haven't really noticed a lot of difference? I've read a lot of other bloggers review of it and they've been quite positive so I feel like I'm not using it properly?

Marcelle Gentle Makeup Remover | £14.50
I'm still a little obsessed with micellar water but I'm running low so perfect timing Birchbox!

Benefit They're Real Lipstick in Lusty Rose | £16.50
I'll be honest, this was the main reason I signed up to Birchbox. I was a fan of the They're Real Mascara so I was a little desperate to try their new lipstick. Watch this space - review coming!

Korres Santorini Vine Shower Gel | £8
I didn't think I was going to like this but after giving it a go, I found I really enjoyed using it. The smell was clean and fresh and not much product was needed to lather up a good amount of foam. Shame about the price though!

Batiste 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner | £4.49
I have actually only recently brought a full size version of this to review so it was a bit of a bummer to receive it but I guess it's always handy to have around incase of emergencies!

Thoughts compared to Glossybox?
I'm much more preferring Birchbox but fingers crossed they keep up the good products!

Essence Stay All Day 16h Foundation Review!

Hello!

A couple of weeks ago now I spoke about my mini (not really mini) Essence make-up spree in my local Wilkos and to be quite honest, I haven't got round to actually reviewing any of it yet!

This week I actually ran out of my foundation so it was finally time to crack open my new Stay All Day 16hr Foundation. Woo!

Now I will admit that I was in a bit of a rush while shopping so not much care was taken when picking the colour. Personally, I think Soft Beige might be slightly too dark for me but that's my own fault so hey!

The formula itself is actually pretty good. I gave it it's first test run on a night out and despite all the dancing ect, it managed to stay on my face for the whole night. Not the 16hr guaranteed but who keeps foundation on for 16 hours!?

The packaging is really cute and simple and there's the nice £3.80 price tag to match as well. Honestly, can you go wrong with that?

Special Occasion? Prestige Flowers!

Hello!

I've had a few special occasions come up recently (both parents 50th birthdays for one!) and I am a complete sucker for spoiling people. Even if there's not a birthday or something coming up, I'll still go out shopping and think "Oh, so and so would like that!" and then buy it for them. I'm just a nice person!

Well as I mentioned about it was a big birthday for both of my parents recently and as they'd both helped out so much with me buying my house, I really spoilt them! As I felt like that wasn't enough, I even dragged it out to Mother's Day as well.

Now my friends over at Prestige Flowers must have read my mind and offered to send me over of their Luxury bouquets from their special Mother's Day range.

I have to admit that I'm a little late writing this review as I've not been feeling very alive lately but how gorgeous are these flowers?! I had them sent to my workplace so I'd be there to accept it and everyone in the office was so jealous!

I was sent their Emerald bouquet by Haute Flowers and it is just beautiful! *insert heart eye emoji* The bouquet includes sweet avalanche roses, memory roses complimented with veronica blue and green chrysanthemum blossoms to make it as truly delightful arrangement. As you can imagine, I scored a lot of Mom points!

If you have any special occasions coming up then check out Prestige Flowers website for their huge range of bouquets and gift packages.

Aura Print | My Own Business Cards!*

Hello!

I've been blogging for a few years now and although I'm currently "unknown" in the blogging world, that's still not deterred me in any way. I enjoy blogging and talking to the friends that I've made and honestly? It justifys all my spending!

One thing that I've always wanted, but felt like I was too much of a "nobody" to get them, were my own blog business cards! I hoped that if I had them then it would push me to attend blogging events and spread the word of "Petal Poppet Blogs"!

Well a couple of months ago, Aura Print contacted me about the chance to get my own business cards designed and printed and of course, I jumped at the chance!

business cardsbusiness cards

All the staff at Aura Print were really friendly, even when I came back with my changes! Within a couple of days my design was agreed and off to printing it went. By the end of the week they were here and the whole process was super quick and easy.

As you can see from the pictures, the cards are really good quality and made from 4 different sheets of paper bonded together to create the final card.

All in all, I honestly can't fault Aura Print and if/when I run out, I would definitely be going back to order more!

Guest Post | The Best Ways to Liven Up Your Outfit

Hello!

If you’re bored of wearing the same old clothes and need some inspiration on how to spice up your outfits, you've come to the right place. By adding some interesting accessories you can completely revamp your whole outfit and bring it back to life. Here’s a few ideas that you can use to brighten up a dull ensemble...

fashion accessories

A Classic Watch
It’s often the case that the one item of a person's outfit which people tend to notice first, is the wristwatch. Therefore, the perfect way to spruce up any dull outfit is with a classic and contemporary watch. A watch should be an investment, so make sure you go with a reliable, trusted brand such as Michael Kors, Links of London, Perrelet, or Thomas Sabo for example.

A Colourful scarf
If you tend to wear rather plain, neutral coloured outfits, then investing in a few colourful or patterned scarfs could be the way to go. An eye catching scarf can totally transform any outfit, whether its round your neck, swinging from your handbag or used as a head wrap. Not only are they versatile and trendy, but they're also practical because they are comfy and can keep you warmer when it's chilly. In cooler weather opt for a bright chunky knit, as opposed to a lighter, patterned scarf for when the temperature creeps up.

A Statement Bag
Carrying a bag doesn’t only provide you with a convenient place to store all the items you want to take with you, but it can also be a real fashion statement. With so much variety, in the form of backpacks, clutch bags, crossbody bags, handbags, or satchels, you’ll be spoilt for choice. If your outfit is fairly monotone, go for bright, patterned or textured bag to give it an edge and make you stand out from the crowd.

A Trusty Belt
If you feel like your outfit needs a little extra something to pull everything together, a belt is sure to do the trick. There are so many different types of belts to choose from that there’s sure to be one that’s just right for every outfit. There are belts made for the waist or the hips, thin belts and thick belts, plain belts and textured belts, colourful belts and patterned belts. Especially if you feel like your outfit doesn't quite fit you properly, a belt is the fastest and easiest cure to cinch you in and turn your outfit from drab to fab.

A Stylish Hat
Another effortless way to spice up your outfit is to throw on a hat. From newsboy hats, berets and bowlers hats, to fedoras, beanies and baseball caps, there's sure to be something to suit you - whatever your style. Hats are not only a great and stylish way to express yourself, but they can make your whole outfit look fashionable, even if the intention was just to cover up your bed hair!

Guest Post | How to Perfect the Bridal Look with a Limited Budget

Hello!

What's one of the biggest event in one’s life? Wedding! Like all other girls, I have dreamed about my wedding since childhood. What attracts me the most on that ceremony is surely the pure white wedding gowns? They are amazing to me. I even have the belief that the white gown has the magic to make the brides smile happily.

I have written once in this blog that I want to be back to aunt’s wedding in 2013 if I could relive once again. That day is perfect and I had so much fun there. I can still remember my aunt’s look. She is so pretty with her white wedding dress and her big smile.

However, now I know the value of one wedding gown better. It is not that easy for one to take one gown on the wedding especially for those handmade luxurious wedding gowns. Some bride can not even afford a cheap one because of some reason. How sad it will be if one girl has never worn one appealing wedding dress on her big day! So, today I am sharing one site with all you brides-to-be, uk.millybridal.org. That is really a trustworthy site. All the dresses on the site are affordable but still in high quality.

Among all the flattering styles, my favorite one is the vintage wedding dresses

millybridal guest post

Will this dress bring you back to the time one century ago? This is my favorite tea length wedding dress. The rushed v neckline is so elegant. The material looks so soft and classic. Anyone who also loves retro style things really should try this one and accessorize with pearl necklace and earrings.

millybridal guest post

This one is also vintage inspired. However, to me, it is chic but kind of modern because of the tulle skirt. The top is nice especially the off-the-shoulder design. Very alluring and princess-like. However, it will look much classic if the skirt is also made of satin. Anyway, it looks good.

millybridal guest post

Will this dress remind you of an elegant queen or princess in ancient times? I pick this dress because of the shining beads and amazing work of the scalloped neckline. It looks like tiny crowns gathering around you. Very luxurious design, isn’t it?

However, that’s not all about today’s picks because I also love those unique and modern dresses. They are in a new fashion way different from the vintage ones.

milly bridal guest post

This dress is in two pieces and high low style. The dress might not be that formal for a church wedding and mountain wedding. However, just do it if you like it. The dress is designed for the free spirits. Why do we have to be traditional? Be different!

millybridal guest post

The best part of this dress is not its mermaid silhouette but the amazing lace appliques on the body. The floral appliques seem to shine, giving the dress a much richer look. Also the lace bottom is amazing to me. One pair of earrings is enough to match the dress. Among all the wedding dresses UK category, this one is the most exquisite.

Did you find any type for your own ceremony? If there is none in this post, go uk.millybridal.org for more looks. You will love that site.

L'Oreal Beauty and the Beast Lipstick & Nail Polish Review

Hello!

Now since the release of the highly anticipated Beauty and the Beast movie, I think everyone has gone slightly "Disney Wild" trying to cash in on the whole thing. If I see another "Tale as Old as Time" T-shirt, I think I'm going to go mad. The one bit of BATB special edition merch I was excited about getting my hands on though was the L'Oreal lipstick and nail varnish combos.

Now if you're a beauty blogger, or just a woman in general, then you've probably heard about these and even more so how they aren't being stocked in the UK which has caused much annoyance. Thank god for Amazon Italy though as there was a little hack to make them all yours!

In the end I picked the "Plumette" lipstick and nail polish (I think it was called Plumette, I'm blaming Google translate) as it's definitely the more "me" shade out of the collection. The nail varnish is a gorgeous dark burgundy plum shade and the lipstick is obviously to match. The combo together actually makes me feel quite sassy!

I'm not sure if there are any products left to order or if they are restocking but I'd definitely keep checking back to the Italy Amazon page to see if they're back in stock!

Essence The Gel Nail Varnish in My Love Diary

Hello!

I'm quite boring when it comes to nail polishes and will mainly stick to two colours for the whole year; a light pink for Spring/Summer and a dark red for Autumn/Winter. Not much variety unfortunately.

After sorting out my make-up storage the other month and realising that I really do have a drawer full of polishes, I'm trying to change that! Instead of using those that I had though, I popped in my local Wilkinsons and picked me up a new shade!

essence nail varnish

Since Spring and Summer are only around the corner, I went for something to match and in the end, I decided on the gorgeous "My Love Diary" shade. It's a gorgeous pinky coral colour and it's a perfect match for that summer tan.

Now as my job is heavily based in the office and typing away on the keyboard, most nail varnishes don't last me longer than a couple of days. Unfortunately this one was another to add to the collection. Within a day I noticed chips and on the second day I was that fed up, I ended up scrubbing it all off.

I'm not going to moan too much as it's a gorgeous colour and I can still definitely see myself using this if I went abroad in the Summer. Plus, it's like £2? I'm not going to turn my nose up at that price!

Guest Post | How To Get Your Hair Spring Ready

Hello!

Our hair definitely needs a bit of a pick-me-up as we come out of Winter. I look for ways to deeply nourish my locks and make my strands shine, ready for Spring. I also love to study the catwalks to see which styles and accessories will be big this season.

spring ready hair

Read on for my tips on how to protect your hair in the sun, apply deep treatments to get it looking its best and bring a glossy glow to your tresses. You’ll also discover how to work those on-trend wavy hairstyles and sparkling hair accessories.

Nourishing Treatments: Chances are your hair is crying out for some hydration after all that central heating and cold, windy weather over Winter. Give it some nourishment with deep treatments, like hair masks and leave-in conditioners. You’ll want to keep this up throughout Summer too, particularly when sun, chlorine from swimming pools and salt from the sea start playing havoc with your locks!

Make It Shine: Hair can become dull during Winter, so make your tresses shine with some of these industry tips. The easiest way to get glossy hair is to simply blast cold water on your hair for a few seconds after conditioning, to seal in the product and close the follicles. Home remedies include using egg whites, honey and olive oil, but you can also buy products like shine sprays to do the hard work for you.

Don’t Forget Your Hair In Your Sunscreen Regime: It’s not just your skin that needs protecting from UV rays once the sun starts shining in Spring, it’s your hair too. You’ll find hair products that are specially formulated for this task. Give them the chance to really sink in by applying to wet hair. A sunhat will help protect too.

Waves: In keeping with the warmer weather Spring brings, the hairstyles we saw on the catwalks for this season wouldn’t look out of place on the beach. In particular, wavy hairstyles were everywhere. The great thing is it’s a pretty low-maintenance look, as you can just accentuate your natural hair texture with salt spray or a curling iron.

Accessories: The Spring 2017 catwalks were full of beautiful hair accessories, worn behind the ear to draw more attention to them. Stock up on sparkly slides and clips that look like brooches to be totally on-trend this season. As for tying your hair back, ribbons are the way to go to emulate that effortless yet stylish Fashion Week look.

By following these tips, your hair will be in great shape for Spring, and you’ll be ready to rock the coolest styles and accessories for the new season!

Essence The False Lashes Extreme Volume and Curl Mascara Review

Hello!

If you follow me on Instagram (link here if you don't!) then you'll remember the naughty make-up haul that I went on in Wilkinsons a couple of weeks ago.

Now my main reason for starting this blog was to review and promote more high street "bargain" brands and one brand that always seems to be talked about a lot is Essence. I've used a few of their products in the past and the only bad thing that I would say about them is that they're not stocked in Superdrug or Boots and the only place I can find them is Wilkos! So basically I'm justifying my haul by saying I don't shop in there often so it might be a long time before I go again. Yep.

Since I brought quite a few items I'll be doing separate reviews week by week and my first product (and one I was most desperate to try) was their new False Lashes Extreme Volume & Curl mascara!

essence false lashes mascara
essence false lashes mascara

I've used a few mascaras in my time and after using them for a few times, I often end up categorising them as "okay for work" and "keep for best". This False Lashes Essence mascara is somewhere in between them.

The formula is definitely long lasting and does add a nice little flick to my lashes but "false lashes effect"? Nah, probably not. I've definitely used better with a more dramatic effect so I don't think I'd be rating this too high.

If you want to give it a try for yourself, it's still a great bargain and perfect for in the day or for work. Plus it's £2.80!

Guest Post | How to Look Your Best This Spring

Hello!

Let’s leave all the darkness and coldness behind us because warmer months are finally approaching. It is time for all of us youngsters to awaken our wardrobes with the newest hues and the hottest garments, as well as some super cool patterns. After all fashion shows and fashion weeks, it is finally there: the ultimate list of millennial spring trends for 2017. Take notes.

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number one: your personal touch
Of course, high-quality garments are extremely important to us, but that doesn’t mean that we should have a name brand across our chest, right? Young people find individuality way more important than flashing names. And even though we tend to follow the newest trends, we also like to have our personal style as well.

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number two: budget-friendly fashion
It is time to refresh our dull closet with some cool dresses. Opt for slip dresses with cool prints such as polka-dot or flower (since flowers are apparently a huge trend this season). Are you feeling a little bit flirty? Great.

If you, on the other hand, aren’t into the so called: “girly items”, but enjoy wearing a dress, opt for T-shirt-like dresses which are keeping you covered and at the same time giving you that laid-back vibe while managing to stay feminine (it is a dress after all). You can opt for minimalistic and versatile ones such as black, white or grey, and spice them up with cool accessories, or you can opt for a wide range of prints. Whatever you choose, it will look good.

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number three: Dresses
Following trends can be devastating for our wallets, right? Luckily, millennials are happy to splurge on important items while sticking to their budget with others. Of course, investing a couple of hundred on something such as a high-quality coat or a pair of leather boots which are going to last for a lifetime almost is always a good idea. When it comes to things such as tees, dresses or other awesome stuff for women, you can shop at patpat.com, since you will find everything you need a lot cheaper.

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number four: Layering
Yes, the warm weather is approaching, but it doesn’t mean that we should walk the streets in just our T-shirts. We need to be equipped with some cool jackets such as bombers (which are extremely popular among supermodels and you can literally find them in every store), denim jackets (which are the ultimate staples of any closet), kimonos (aka bed jackets with a cool and relaxed silhouette and stylish eye-catching prints), and of course faux leather jackets. When it comes to leather jackets you have two options: you can opt for biker-like ones (if you still can’t let go of 2016 bold trends), or trendy new designs that are lacking that biker vibe and are way more feminine and subtle.

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number five: Super Bright Colours
It is time to let go of all-black combos and turn to fire red, dirty pink, Kermit green, sunny yellow and royal blue. Now, our “basic” combinations are getting a little update with these bold colours. And oh, I almost forgot, you will probably have to wear sunglasses with these outfits since you will shine so bright, that you’ll almost go blind (wink).

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number six: Navel – Grazing Necklaces
Chokers are now a thing of the past. It is time to upgrade our accessory box with these babies. 2017 is going to be all about: the longer – the better. Many famous brands such as Prada and Givenchy, showed us how we can rock these long pendants. Another great thing about these necklaces is that they go great with your work attire. Spice up your sweater or your shirt and blazer with one of these, to achieve the glamorous, but yet effortlessly-looking chic.

guest post how to look your best this spring
Trend number 7: Jeans
A girl can never have too many pairs of jeans, right? This year is going to be all about soft denim (which is super pretty and super comfy, since it feels like cotton leggings), all kinds of blue jeans, high-waisted jeans, distressed denim of course, cropped jeans that elongate the leg when combined with a cute pair of heels, and embellished jeans (hello 2005!).
That would be it. Remember, it is important to stay updated on trends, but it is much more important to always be yourself. In the sea of selfsame people, be the one that stands out, because you are special.

How do you like these trends? Are you going to try them out? Let me know in the comments.
