Wedding | DIY Pinterest Ideas!

Hello!

A couple of months ago I wrote a Hen Party Pinterest post and I thought I would do another one but focusing more on the actual wedding.

I've decided that to save on money, I would try and do some of the decorating/invites myself and the perfect place to get some inspiration, is of course Pinterest! Here are a few (of many) ideas that I had so feel free to take a look.

If you also DIY'd parts of your wedding, let me know some of your ideas!

Guest Post | How Will Beauty Standards Change in 2018?

Hello!

Guest Post | How Will Beauty Standards Change in 2018?

The beauty standards for women have been around for a very long time – but they are far from standardised. Year after year, beauty standards are changing, and we are seeing different bodies being perceived as desirable. And we all know why this is problematic: we simply cannot all have the same body. But still, we are all slaves to the ideal standards and try to change our bodies to fit the “standard”. But is the situation the same all over the world, will we see a change in the upcoming year and what will be the driving factors for this change?

The rise of body positivity

Guest Post | How Will Beauty Standards Change in 2018?

Body positivity is certainly not a new thing, but it has massively gained in popularity in the past year. With social media stars and plus-size models preaching and practising body positivity, the message is spreading: all bodies are good bodies and all bodies deserve respect. Combine this with stars like Kim Kardashian and Beyonce breaking the traditional mold of “thin=beautiful” and it seem like we are starting to relax with the idea of the ideal body being thin. You can see brands becoming more inclusive, and magazine covers featuring models of different sizes. However, there’s still a ways to go. Even though true body positivity is doing its best to include bodies of all colours, abilities and genders, we’re not really there yet. So for now, it looks like while we are accepting curves on bodies, ideally they are still all “in the right places”, giving an hourglass silhouette.

Operation obsession

Guest Post | How Will Beauty Standards Change in 2018?

We are lucky to live in an age where we can alter nearly every part of our body to look exactly how we want it to. Cosmetic surgeries have reached their peak, and the majority of the procedures are now performed safely and can be afforded by many people. However, this isn’t without its dangers. The media is filled with examples of surgeries-gone-bad and people who simply had too much work done. This not only pushes younger and younger men and women to opt for surgery, thinking that it is a requirement for them to be accepted, but it also creates a bad reputation and stigma around cosmetic surgeries. This is especially damaging for people who need procedures like reconstructive surgery and issues people are born with, like tuberous breasts. The bottom line is: cosmetic procedures are becoming more accessible, and with that, they are becoming the norm for everyone. And while procedures being accessible is a good thing, the “must-have” talks surrounding them can be damaging to young men and women who are trying to make peace with their bodies. The danger lies with the trends that push us towards those changes: they are not all reversible, and when a trend passes, the procedure outcome does not, so think long and hard and do your homework to find a good, trustworthy clinic.

Reappearance of old traditions

Guest Post | How Will Beauty Standards Change in 2018?

Nearly every culture in the world has some physical symbols that mark their heritage and are considered beautiful. In some places, it is full-figured women, in some it is scarification of the skin, and in some it is extremely pale skin tones. And while these are mostly considered to be a thing of the past and something only done in the name of tradition, there have been some beauty traditions that are making a beautiful comeback. A perfect example of this is the traditional Maori women face tattoo, the moko kauae. When an MP in New Zealand wore hers in parliament, it was a sign to all women who wanted to express themselves that it is perfectly fine to represent your identity and your culture. We are also seeing this with women of colour proudly rocking their natural hair or wearing traditional clothing. Does this mean that we will see a rise in traditional expression through clothing and body modification? We might, and the world will be a better and more diverse place for it!

Beauty standards have for a very long time been set by the beauty industry, pushing products and services that earned them quite some money. But now, it seems that the times are changing: women, their cultures and influencers are setting the trends, and it’s a refreshing change. More plus-size models, androgynous models and models of colour are being cast now than ever before, and it’s giving the much-needed representation to diverse bodies. We are entering a year where the runways will be filled with diversity, the stores with wider ranges of sizes and the society with more acceptance towards people of all looks.

L'Oreal Color Riche Collection Exclusive - Julianne's Pink Review

Hello!

A couple of weeks before Christmas, I convinced my boyfriend to take a detour on the way back from Manchester and pop into Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. I told him it was a perfect place to get a few last minute presents but I secretly only wanted to go to the Beauty Outlet store. I can't help myself!

I did resist a lot of things in there but I did pop the Julianne's Pink lipstick in my basket to add to my growing L'Oreal Exclusive Celeb collection. I have already got Naomi's shade from their pink collection and since I enjoyed it so much, I thought I'd buy Julianne's.

Now this shade is definitely more of a girly “Barbie” pink to Naomi's but in a weird way, I like it. I do prefer to pick the more red toned based lipsticks as I think they suit my skin tone better but there’s just something about this that I just really like.

The formula is obviously exactly the same as the other lipsticks in the collection and has the same long lasting power as Naomi’s as well. It’s definitely something I would keep for the Spring/Summer months because of the shade but all the same, it’s a great lipstick. You can check out the collection on Amazon where they’re a bargain at under £5 each!

Wedding | Hen Party Ideas!

Hello!

If you're following me on Instagram or Twitter (links below!) then you'll already know that I got engaged over Christmas! YAY! I haven't started planning too much just yet as we're not planning on getting married until 2019 but one part of the whole being engaged/getting married that I'm really looking forward to is the hen party!

I'm not a fan of the whole L plates and penis' everywhere because personally I think it's a bit tacky. I don't want to go out clubbing as I know a lot of my friends wouldn't be up for that so I'm thinking something a bit more civilised like a meal. BUT that's all in the future.

I have been having sneaky little looks on Pinterest for ideas and hints on what I could do etc and I thought I'd put them all down in a post for you in case you're in need of help too!

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Mattifying Base Review

Hello!

When it comes to everyday make-up I tend to prefer using as little product as possible. Part of that decision is because I'm lazy and would easily prefer an extra 10 minutes in bed (who wouldn't?!) but mainly because I suffer with oily skin and will always try and avoid applying too much to my face for long periods of time. Half of it slides off my face and the other half gets clogged in my pores. Gross!

For the past couple of months I've been on a mission to find "the perfect everyday make-up bag" which is basically a foundation that stays on all day without making my skin feel heavy. After a lot of researching on other blogs and re-reading a few of my own reviews, I thought I would try focusing on more "pre-makeup" and buy myself a proper primer!

After reading more reviews, I decided on the L'Oreal Infallible Mattifying Base because of it's light but powerful staying power. Another reason was because Superdrug had a 3 for 2 on all L'Oreal products and I was desperate to pick up another tube of their Paradise mascara!

Ignore the "act natural" pose.

As I said above, I suffer with oily skin and I tend to keep my product usage quite low as most either make my skin look even shinier than it already is or it slides off before even mid-day. I’ve tried other moisturisers and bases before and although I’ve initially loved them, their novelty wears off and I end up never using them again.
That was before I tried this mattifying primer though!
My skin actually looks good ALLL day when I put this on. There was no shiny T-zone or that horrible heavy feeling like you’re wearing 100 layers of foundation. The formula is super light and glides on easily onto your skin. It added no extra time onto my morning routine but it made such a difference! I don’t leave the house without using this badboy now.
If you’re in the market for a new primer or just want to give something new ago, then I’d definitely recommend checking out this primer!

Home | "It's Always Been You "Photobox Canvas Review!*

Hello!

As well as neglecting my blog, I've also been neglecting my home. Now that sounds dramatic and I don't mean it in the sense that I'm not cleaning or not doing any laundry. Trust me, I am. I mean it as I've not brought or decorated in a while.

When I first brought the house and initially finished decorating the kitchen, living room and bedroom, I've been on a complete shut down and haven't done a thing since. How lazy!

Although I said I finished my living room, there has always been a big gap above where our sofa sits and I've never been able to find that perfect thing to hang there. That was until I was contacted by the lovely Christine from Photowall about ordering my very own canvas print!

If you've not heard of Photowall before then here's the low down. They're a Swedish company who specialise in canvas prints and wall murals. All their products are environmentally friendly and are guaranteed to not fade over time.

After what felt like hours going through all their different design categories, I eventually decided on the "Always Been You" canvas as a mini engagement present to me and my new fiancée!

Since they're obviously coming from all the way from Sweden you'd think delivery times would be months but it was here within a couple of weeks which was great considering it was over Christmas as well!

If you're like me and picked their canvases, you can also order their "do-it-yourself" frame kit which at first sounded a bit daunting but actually worked out to be super easy to put together and within 10 minutes my new canvas was up and hanging on my wall.

Overall I'd really rate Photowall and I'll definitely be ordering again from them! If you're doing a bit of decorating or just looking for something new, then get yourself over to Photowall!

L'Oreal Paris Paradise Extatic Mascara Review!

Hello!

As I mentioned a few blog posts ago, I've been having a mini break from blogging but as part of my 2018 resolutions, I want to get back into it but this time, with a vengeance.

Now my first (technically second) review of 2018 is this mascara that's been sitting in my make-up box for so long now that it's not even classed as a "new" product. I brought it probably last summer and although I've been using it everyday since, I haven't got round to actually writing up the review.

I was immediately attracted to the mascara after watching the TV advertisement and then seeing the list of how amazing it was that I went straight on Superdrug's website and ordered myself one (among other things but that's another story!).

Like I said above, I've been using this mascara for a good couple of months now and I know that it's been that long because I've actually already used up my first tube and I've had to now go buy a second. It really lengthened and volumised my lashes to the point that when I put my glasses on, my lashes kept touching the lens every time I blinked. That's when you know they're long!

The formula was really gentle on my eyes and easily rubbed off at the end of the day. If I had to give them a mark out of 10, then I'd definitely give it an 11 hands down. It's probably the best mascara that I've used in a while and like I said above, I've already been out and brought a second tube. I'll definitely be going back to buy a third as well!

If you're in the market for a new mascara then definitely check out this one on the Superdrug website where it's in a 3 for 2 offer!

Guest Post | The Smart Guide To Tattooing - Pros & Cons

Hello!

“Tattoos used to be worn just by criminals and dirty sailors, you know,” the old man says smugly, as he regards you with a condescending gaze. “They’re for the frivolous and vain, for the prostitutes, and not smart young men and women of stature,” he drones on, as you fight not to roll your eyes. Heard it all before? Tattoos are immoral and impractical, they’ll go out of fashion, you’ll regret such a permanent mark, what will you do when you’re sixty and your skin starts to sag? We’ve heard this kind of reasoning before, but luckily, it doesn’t really represent reality. To enter a discussion about tattoos and whether you should get one, it’s important to really get all your facts straight. To help, we’ve made a quick little guide that will explain what you’ll be getting into, and what are the good and bad sides of tattoo artistry.

A brief overview of history

guest post smart guide to tattoos

Tattoos are not, in fact, something that was only ever worn by sailors, criminals, and prostitutes. The history of tattoos is a long one, and it starts all the way back in ancient Egypt, where they indicated various things on a person, from their social status, to their religion. In Borneo, women who were particularly skilled at something had a tattoo that indicated their mastery of it. The word itself is derived from the Tahitian “tatu,” which means “to mark something.” Painting and adorning our body has always been essential to the human race, and all parts of the world have their own, varied history with tattoos.

Different types of styles

https://blog.taperup.com/2017/10/think-before-you-ink/

If you are seriously considering a tattoo, one of the most important things you should think about is the style. Some people like old school Western kind of approach, while some would love the incredibly beautiful and popular watercolour artwork. You can read about different types of styles here, and see whether you prefer realism, dotwork, geometry, or something else entirely.

Finding the right artist

guest post smart guide to tattoos

Artists of any kind are varied, and the person who’s really good at sketch tattoos might be completely terrible at grasping the traditional old school styles. It’s not just about finding a good or bad tattoo artist, it’s about finding someone whose creativity and vision appeals to you, and who understands your own idea and can paint it on your skin. To find the right person, browse the artist’s work online, or go to their parlour and look at their portfolio.

Remember that tattoos are long-lasting

guest post smart guide to tattoos

Tattoos last quite a while, which is both a good and a bad thing. If you have something very important to you, you can mark it on your skin permanently, you can make sure it’s there for you to look at, to remember, and to enjoy. But the issue arises if, at any point after getting inked, you realise you no longer like your tattoo. Despite what grumpy old people who associate tattoos exclusively with rebellious teens say, it’s really not the end of the world. Mistakes happen, so if you’ve inked something you regret, laser tattoo removal is a safe, efficient way to remove the ink from your skin over the course of several treatments.

They will require touch-ups

Tattoos fade. Some of them will require retouching only after a decade, and some will need it a lot more often. It depends on the style, size, and the placement of the tattoo. For example, white ink tattoos fade more quickly, and so do tattoos on your hands, and fingers.

You might have to cover them up

guest post smart guide to tattoos

While more accepted than ever, a lot of people still dislike tattoos and are prone to passing quick judgement if they see you with one. Unless you work in a very modern, laid-back kind of environment, you will need to cover them up and hide them to maintain a look that your boss considers to be professional. That’s why you always need to consider your tattoo placement really well. Can it be hidden underneath a button-up blouse?
Before we go, here’s a bunch of badass seniors that should answer the “But what about when I get old” question.

Cocktail Flavourited Weight Loss Shake?! | Cute Nutrition Review

Hello!

It's the New Year and it's that time where everyone is starting their diets after weeks of bad eating over the Christmas period and most of us are trying to do the quickest and easiest way possible. I can't really judge as I've been doing the same myself!

A couple of weeks ago after flicking through my Facebook feed, I noticed a small ad for a company called Cute Nutrition. The packaging and the advertising looked really cute and it intrigued me enough to click on the link.

After looking through their website, I knew I had to place an order and luckily for me, they sell handy starter bundles to suit what you want. In the end I decided on the "workout" bundle and an extra tub of the Porn Star Martini shake!

cute nutrition

Sorry for the bad picture but blame our gorgeous Winter English weather for making it so dark and gloomy!

Yes, as you read above I brought a Porn Star Martini flavoured milkshake. And the flavour I got in the bundle was a Strawberry Daiquiri. How lush do they sound? Now don't worry, if you're not a borderline alcoholic like myself, they also provide "normal" milkshake like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry and they've also recently brought our new flavours like peaches and cream and cookies and cream. Yum!

I've been using these shakes and vitamins for a couple of weeks now and I have noticed a difference to how I feel. I'm a few pounds down and I just generally feel better. Obviously while I can't say it's all down to the shakes as I've always made other lifestyle changes as well, but it definitely gave me a boost!

I'm not promoting a completely meal supplement diet as I do believe you also need to eat proper food every once in a while but I have been using these shakes for when I'm at work or when I just can't be bothered to cook and incorporated them into my daily life.

If you're looking for that new easy way to diet then I'd definitely check out Cute Nutrition!
